What's New for Canadian Truck Drivers in 2019?

There is a list of a few new trucking laws that have occurred this past year. These new changes are coming into effect mainly because of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash that happened last year that left 16 dead after a Junior Hockey Team’s bus collided with a semi-truck. This list of changes is small, but necessary for freight trucking companies moving forward.

The ELD Mandate

An ELD is an electronic logging device that is used to electronically record a driver’s Record of Duty Status (RODS). This form of technology replaces the paper logbooks that drivers originally used to record their compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.

Fleets that have not already switched to that system have until June 2021 to ensure compliance with these published specifications. The ELD rule is not reinventing the way the logging of Hours of Service works. Most drivers and fleets are already using an automatic onboard recording device (AOBRD) to reduce paperwork for freight trucking companies. This automatically records the driver’s duty status and any changes made to that status, along with the amount of time they operate the vehicle.

If law enforcement needs to see a driver’s status, the driver must immediately present the required AOBRD information for the current day, plus the last seven days in operation.

New Training

Canada is now looking to pass a new training course that requires minimum entry-level semi-truck driver standards to be put in place. The new training for international freight forwarders is very important for Canadian truck drivers to undergo. This is why it is being placed under the National Safety Code to recognize the importance of training that truck drivers must go through.

The Future of Sustainable Freight Hauling in Canada

Looking for more sustainable ways to ship commercial goods across the world has been on everyone’s radar over the past years. With the rising concern about climate change, more and more freight trucking companies are looking for environmentally-friendly alternatives.

What Does Sustainable Freight Hauling Mean?
Being a sustainable business means you’re aware of your environmental impact and are trying to change the way your company runs itself. A lot of freight companies are trying to shift their businesses to run in a more energy-efficient way. This can be by using technologies to improve the efficiency of the products needing to be shipped out and their supply chains. Freight companies in NJ have been trying to figure a way of increasing productivity instead of shipping out half-empty containers of goods. This will ultimately allow them to have an edge over other shipping companies.
With sustainable freight, the end result doesn’t have to begin with the business. Every single person contributes to the drastic need for food, and consumer goods to reach us faster than ever before. If all of us began to buy more products locally and didn’t need to rely heavily on freight services like trucks.
Of course, this is a huge change that can only be accomplished if everyone comes together to complete this task in order to stop the impending doom that climate change possesses.

What Makes a Freight Forwarder Company an Ideal Choice?

After learning what a freight forwarder company does, you will realize why working with one is the ideal choice. This company specializes in arranging shipping and storing goods on behalf of shippers.

A freight forwarder provides comprehensive services. The company tracks inland transportation, prepares documentation for shipping and export, and consolidates freight. It also provides warehouse space and books cargo space, and it even handles freight charge negotiations and cargo insurance, including the filing of any applicable claims.

The process of shipping goods overseas requires a lot of time, effort, and knowledge; after all, every country has different shipping and customs regulations. For customers that ship to several parts of the world, staying on top of everything would be a monumental task. International freight forwarders take care of every aspect of shipping, allowing the customer to focus on other business matters.

While a freight trucking company does not move freight, it does arrange every aspect of the shipping process. Ultimately, a freight forwarder serves as an intermediary between the shipper and different transportation services to ensure that goods get delivered on time and unscathed.
